Dog Training Aids

There are many more types of dog training aids than just fencing and training collars. One can make use of things like clickers, training sticks and training discs as well.

Clicker dog training aids are used to associate a clicking sound with a command to help encourage good behavior. Training discs can also be used to associate a sound with a command to help curb improper behavior. By using a clicker and a disc combined as dog training aids, you can train your dog to associate one sound as a reward for good behavior, and the other as punishment for bad behavior. By rewarding with treats when using a clicker, and by withholding a hug when using the discs, your dog will quickly learn to do the things that are associated with the clicker sound.

Another form of dog training aids is training sticks. These sticks are not used to punish your dog by hitting, but are instead used to guide your dog so that it will do what you want it to do. The training sticks can be used to help train your dog to sit, heel and lie down. Some training sticks have an attractive ball on the end that your dog can follow, whereas some have a gentle noose that can guide the neck (it’s not used for jerking a dog into obedience, only to guide) so that you can guide your dog into positions you wish him to be in when you state your commands.

Of course, there are certain dog training aids that one should never forget when trying to train a dog. These aids are training treats that can be given to the dog when he has obeyed a command. You can purchase a treat bag that attaches to your waist, and fill it with all sorts of treats that you can use as dog training aids. Snacks and biscuits are the most popular forms of treats used as dog training aids.

When using these, always be sure to use snacks or biscuits that are small, you do not want to feed your dog so that he becomes full but instead you want to just provide a small treat only as a reward. When using treats as dog training aids, never feed these treats unless you are training. If you feed your dog these treats during times that you are not training, then your dog will not associate them as a reward and will not work as hard to earn them.
