Dog Training Techniques

There are many types of dog training techniques that can be used to train a dog. Some are considered popular, animal friendly techniques yet some are considered to be a bit cruel even if the methods work. The following dog training techniques are considered animal friendly and are not abusive in any manner towards dogs.

Clicker training is considered one of the best dog training techniques that a person can use when training a puppy or even a full-grown dog. Clicker training uses a small clicker device to make a clicking noise when your dog does something that you approve of. For instance, if you are trying to train your dog to sit, then you would give the command and click the clicker whenever your dog follows your command. Once you use the clicker to make the “noise” showing your approval, you should then follow-up with a small treat or reward for the good behavior.

Once your dog learns that the sound is usually followed by a reward, he will associate the clicker as a positive sound and try harder to do as you command. This is truly one of the friendliest of dog training techniques that one could use when training their favored pet.

Crate training is another of the many dog training techniques that is not only animal friendly, but that is also useful for dogs that have a destructive nature. To use this technique, you will need to purchase a dog crate that is large enough for your dog to move around in yet not so large as to give a lot of freedom.

This dog training technique simply trains your dog to stay in place and helps to curb destructive natures, it isn’t used to train a dog the basic fetch, follow and sit commands. You basically use this training technique to train your dog to stay in his crate when you are away from home. Once he is properly crate trained, you can leave the crate door open and when your dog notices that you are about to leave your home, he will go into the crate alone without you needing to issue a single command.

By using a combination of these two types of dog training techniques, you can train your dog in a manner that is non-abusive, loving and affectionate. Your dog will truly become your favorite friend once you establish a loving relationship with him.
