Electronic Dog Collars

The typical standard answer most people have is that yes, electronic dog collars are really good to have, and they are wonderful for making sure your dog is paying attention to what you say. However, times are changing and now most electronic dog collars are considered to be cruel and unusual forms of training your dog. Imagine how you would feel with a necklace around your neck that constantly gave you an electric shock.

The same reasons why you would not want an electronic collar on yourself is the reasons why electronic dog collars are not good. They generally help encourage fear in your dog, and a dog that is fearful tends to be very dangerous to people. Instead of using electronic dog collars, you should consider using traditional leather collars and a training tool such as a clicker. The clicker is similar to electronic dog collars because it commands the dog’s attention, however unlike the collar a clicker will not hurt your dog in any way, nor cause them fear.

Instead, dogs view clickers as a positive training tool and are usually quite excited about working with a clicker. While clickers are viewed as positive, the electronic dog collars are viewed as frightening and can really cause a normally passive dog to turn vicious out of fear of the unknown. To help alleviate the fear that is associated with the unknown you should always use training tools that your dog feels comfortable with.

Whether you are trying to train your dog to sit, stand, lay down, come, or even remain inside a specific area you should not view an electronic dog collar as the perfect solution. You should instead look for ways where you can work closely with your dog to teach them what you want. You must remember your dog has the ultimate goal of making their master happy. As long as you give them the tools they need to learn, they will typically make you very happy, this is great because you have a dog that is well behaved, and you are able to enjoy your time together rather than watch your dog being zapped by an electronic dog collar.
