Training Aggressive Dogs

It is a fact that is undeniable; some dogs are more aggressive than others. When you are working on training aggressive dogs there are some things you should watch for. First, you obviously need to watch for your safety. If you are about to be attacked it is time to stop training and instead focus on your safety until the aggression passes. This may mean leaving the training area, putting a muzzle on the dog, or even putting the dog into a kennel, crate or dog pen.

When you are training aggressive dogs, it is important to watch for small changes in behavior, often a dog that is afraid or upset will turn vicious, and this is never a good situation. If you think the dog you are training is aggressive then you should also make sure there are no children around. While a dog can badly injure an adult when they turn aggressive, they can kill a child in a few minutes because children are much smaller. Children should not be allowed to work on training aggressive dogs until after the dog has been thoroughly trained with an adult first.

Another tip for training aggressive dogs is to always ensure that you are in command. This means do not show the dog that you are afraid, and do not act as if the dog makes you nervous. You should appear to the dog that you are calm, collected and fully in control of the situation. If the aggressive dog feels that you are scared or nervous, they are more likely to try to make a move to establish them as the dominate animal against you. This is not a good situation at all and can result in problems, however by maintaining control and a calm temperament you are able to show the dog that you are the dominate and they must do as you wish, not the other way around.

Training aggressive dogs is not a simple task; it will take a lot of patience and courage at times. However, it is absolutely necessary in order to allow the dog to blend into your family and to become an asset instead of a liability. Remember, if an aggressive dog attacks someone because of lack of training you can be held responsible, so good training is essential.
